Red Arrows, they say no
Ged
Thank you for your email. Sorry for the delay in replying to you.
Unfortunately it is not be possible for the Red Arrows to display over London due to airspace restrictions. The 2012 display season for the Red Arrows will be co-ordinated in early 2012, therefore, it is too early in our planning calendar to make any decisions although it is likely that a flypast will be considered.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: Red Arrows, they say no
At least it looks like they have not ruled out the Fly Past though, which is a good thing.

Re: Red Arrows, they say no
Not a surprise that they said no really - we were 5 years early in our request!!
I'm sure I said it before, it wouldn't surprise me if they have already got the event in the diary but can't announce it at they don't want to be upstaged by 2008...

Re: Red Arrows, they say no
Thinking about it logically they do have a point. Airshows are governed by strict guidelines one of which being that there must be a distinct flightline which the display is performed in front of. Obviously the crowd is behind this line and the display routine is conducted over relatively unoccupied space in front of it with manouvres planned so that if there were, heaven forbid, a mishap the runoff area is on the display side of the flightline. This would be very difficult to achieve over London as some of the routines require up to 3 miles of free airspace. In additon I've read somewhere that they also require an exclusion zone of a further 3 miles around the display envelope. So that means a 6 x 6 mile square of free space. A flypast should be permissable tho, theyve done it before for queens birthday etc. It might be worthwhile researching the olympics events locations as i'm sure there must be somewhere that is suitable - a coastal one for example if there is a yachting event etc.
Lets not throw in the towel just yet - lolLast edited by dholdi; 23-10-07 at 07:01 PM. Reason: spelling
