Broadband Upgrade to VDSL (FTTC). Currently using own router.

      Hi all,

Quick question - has anybody gone through an upgrade from ADSL to VDSL/FTTC when using their own router?

I've got an upgrade scheduled for the 21st of this month, and I'm currently happily using my Draytek 2860n. The original router I was provided with last year, when we took ADSL is the SR102, so I'm all compatible for the upgrade in the eyes of Sky.

My question is this -- will they attempt any remote jiggery pokery on the expected SR102 to change configuration? If so, should I plug the SR102 back in until the upgrade is complete - or can I just leave it all connected and flip over the settings manually for the Draytek on the day?

Im just wondering if anybody knows what their procedure is for the upgrade? Is it a purely physical one (enabling me at the junction box down the road), or do they do any remote software changes? Or does the SR102 check for compatability with VDSL all of its own accord?

      Thanks in advance!
      Doug

Put the old SR102 back for the upgrade process, best not to pull the tail of the dragon.

Upgrade is usually very fast and the SR102 should just pick up the changes. Have they scheduled a visit from OpenReach?

Thanks for the reply marjohn56 - when I spoke to the lady on the phone, I did query this. Was told that I won't be receiving a visit from anybody. I quizzed her on this, and she didn't seem too clued up, but I can only assume that OpenReach are just visiting the cabinet on the 21st...and not me.

In that case just leave the SR102 in place until it's changed over then swap back.
