Access DLNA & HDD on Internal LAN from Internet via SR101

My current set-up has the new SR101 as my broadband connection. I have then taken my Huwaie HG533 wireless router and switched off the wireless and ADSL, attached it to the SR101 so that I can utilise the DLNA and HDD that I have attached to it by USB. At present all devices can see the HDD on the network and watch the movies and listen to the music on any device via wireless in the house.

My Mrs is going on holiday with some friends and would like to access the HDD to watch the movies while away. What is the best way of doing this without leaving a computer on in the house?

You can't. For now I would suggest that she takes the external drive and laptop with her and leaves the PC behind.

It might be better to copy a few video files across so that she can watch a few things, rather than have the whole library with her.

What you may also need to do is to install something like Skifta so that you can access the contents whilst away. However I have found that my own upstream connection cannot cope with streaming video content when away from home. This is one benefit I would like to get when I upgrade to Fibre.

One annoying fact with Skifta for now is that I manually need to start it on the PC I have it installed on. This means that once a month when M$ roll out their updates and the PC reboots, i need to restart Skifta.
