      Suggestion for new Mognuts feature

      Having spent the last few days looking at SNR vs frequency data, and seeing how much useful information this gives about the nature of interference on the line, I'm wondering if it might not be a good idea to update the Mognuts utility to enable this information to be extracted more simply.

      It should be a simple matter to add an extra button that does injects an 'adslctl info --SNR' command. Anyone else thing it's a good idea?

      Hi James,

      from reading some of your other posts, you do seem to have looked into the more technical bits of the router (i even re-read them but still do not fully understand some of the info you had)
      If added this info could confuse some members and new members
      would it not be better as a seperate feature

      Well no-one would be forced to press the new button. How many people know what it means to start a telnet daemon? There's a button for that.

      But maybe there is a case for developing a new utility, specifically designed to determine "what the heck is wrong with my broadband connection?" Ooooh, perhaps even one which sits on the router - not impossible as far as I can tell.

      just used your utility james, and i must say was easy as pie (i take back my comment from my previous post above )

      i used to be capped at about 4meg(wont go into detail, lets just say "extstention" i think that will sum it up) but after moving the pc to master socket and using the test plug i had very nearly no errors. after a couple of months got a filtered face plate and thought why not get the full monty. sent email then phoned and spoke to T3 who checked the line and lifted the cap.

      all was well for about a week, then one day i noticed a very slow connection, used mognuts to check the errors and noticed quite a few (nothing special, but enough to affect speed) then last night at about 11pm put the computer on and could not connect for more than a few seconds at a time, even removed face plate and plugged into master again but no real improvement.
      managed to get online long enough to download your utility and left it running until today when i got back from work, listed error times below (have taken out all zero error times)

      i may now try to flash the router (if i feel brave enough) and see if it makes any diff with the new netgear version, but will leave your utility running untill the weekend first, to see if i can find a common time for errors

      Blimey, that's a worse example of the router bug than I'm getting with my line. The line's good enough to support 7168 kbit/sec throughout the day - you can see that because it always resyncs at that speed. But it's just not making use of the capacity to adjust to the changing physical characteristics of the line.

      I have tried the latest Netgear firmware before and it certainly seems a lot better. I noticed with some interest, the Bitswap statistic in the full statistics that you get with the latest firmware. Heh, heh.

      That said, it still didn't work flawlessly, which is why I'm still pinning my hopes on Sky's next router firmware release being actually better than the latest Netgear firmware. I can only assume it is, because if the next release were just a matter of doing a customised version of the latest Netgear firmware, it would have been available by now.
