I would suggest phoning sky if they were your results while wired up. To verify it is not the server on the other side being slow I would perform the test a few times at different points in the day if possible

Re: Too much information, wood for the trees

Help! I have phoned SKY and according to them I am on the MAX package, so why does package say BASE in my profile. Sky ran a test and the results were as on my original posting (see below)

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 28096 27704 0 2388 5047 01:33:38
      LAN 10M/100M 8422 0 0 7 0 73:35:59
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 21494 21571 0 6171 2463 01:02:56

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.0 db 7.6 db
Noise Margin 9.9 db 12.5 db

Sky said Norton Internet Security could be the problem so I switched off fire wall and run a test using

      thinkbroadband :: Broadband Speed Test

You need the Java software to run this test.

Once you have run the test click on 'I live in the UK....above' and your result will be displayed. My result is below
      Speed Test Results
      Date 05/02/07 23:00:31
      Speed Down 306.59 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
      Speed Up 641.21 Kbps ( 0.6 Mbps )
Switching off the firewall makes a difference of about 110Kbps.

Are Sky lying when they say I am on MAX? What can I do to improve my down stream speed?
Any advice would be greatky appreciated.
      Thanks

Re: Too much information, wood for the trees

If you mean your profile on this forum is set to base, it is set manually by yourself. To change it go to the top of this screen and click profile. Then click edit profile and change your broadband connection to max.

Sorry I cant tell whether you were meant to say wired or wireless in your other post. I am guessing wireless. So you need to be wired up to the router when performing the test.
