Scream if you wanna go faster.

Hi i am a bit of a dummy when it comes to these kind of questions so here goes. I am new to sky bb coming from aol which was the 2 mbps gold package, with sky i am on the mid package getting about 2.5 to 3mbps.
How come i am able to go faster with sky than aol ? I looked on bts website to see how fast a line i have the other month and it said 2.5 mbps max so what i am getting with sky looks good . Why am i only capable of going about this fast though according to a website i looked at the other day my exchange is only in town about 1 mile away i would of thought i could go alot faster being closer to an exchange. i guess some exchanges are capable of going faster than others ? what needs to be done for me to be able to go faster ? If i want to go faster can i do anything about it, like ask bt or sky ?

      Thanks Mick

P.S think i need the how to use the internet for dummies book if one exists lol

Re: Scream if you wanna go faster.

Thanks think i understood some of that my stats for my router were -

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4256 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 57.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 13.0 db

So because my Line Attenuation is high that sugests my actual line distance to the exchange is further than the 1.4 km as the crow flies ?

Yes, your stats suggest your line length is ~4km.

They also show you have a very good connection speed for that attenuation.
