Superslow connection

Yes you've been capped. G.DMT limits you to a connection speed of ~8000kbps.

However, if you were on ADSL2+ with a relatively noise free line, with your attenuation you could expect a connection speed of ~5000kbps, which is what you have. This shows that there is no negative impact to you being on G.DMT.

Your current connection speed is as fast as you will get with any current ADSL technology.

I just did a check on samknows.com and it says that my local exchange is about 2.94km away straight line. If this is true then my line attenuation is alot higher then it should be. It currently says the line attenuation is 55db which means the exchange should be around 4km away. What could be causing this? My speed could be doubled if i can get this resolved.

Your straight line distance may well be 2.94km but your actual line length certainly isn't. Do you imagine everyone's line is laid in a straight line - that's an awful lot of trenches to dig.

Call up BT and demand they re-lay your line and tell them to bulldoze everything in the way.
