However, if you can eliminate the noise you should see your speed rise to something like 14500kbps and have a more stable connection - I'm guessing you must be seeing some problems with all those errors.

It looks like you don't have a master socket. You have a couple of choices:
      • call in BT
      • fit one yourself

The former will cost you a minimum of 65 unless you are calling them in to fix a voice line fault e.g. hissing/crackling (Hint: intermittent faults often need wiring/sockets upgrading). The latter will cost you ~25 (including a filtered faceplate) but it's a bit of a grey area whether you are allowed to touch your wiring - it's all down to where the demarcation line is considered to be in your house.
      Hi again

Thanks for your help (and sorry for invading the thread again, but I hope it helps someone in a similar situation!)

I took the plunge and disconnected the ring wire from all three phone sockets. I didn't fiddle with the spur junction box where the main phone line comes into before it splits out.

      I now get the following:

Quite an improvement, but nowhere near the 14Mb I was expecting. Never mind, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Yes - your speed has been capped and you've been placed on G.DMT. Sky usually do this when they find errors on the line.

Uncapped and on ADSL2+ with a relatively noise free line, your attenuation would easily allow a connection of ~16000kbps.

You're on Mid and your connection speed is exactly as it should be. Looking at your stats, your line is generating a fairly high level of errors but they are not anything to be too concerned about.

Moving to ADSL2+ on Mid would make no difference to your connection speed and may in fact increase your error levels. Were you to move to Max and put on ADSL2+ I'd expect the error levels to soar.

On Max and on ADSL2+ with a relatively noise free line, your attenuation would allow a connection of ~14000kbps. It would probably be unstable though unless you deal with the line problems you have.

See the cabling and faceplate help forum for advice.
