Are these speed stats correct?
Hi, I got activated on Sky Broadband Mid(8mb) a few weeks ago. Would be grateful if some one could tell me if the speed stats I am getting from the router make sense: -
as when I check my broadband speed using many internet speed tests I always get a figure of around 3mb but my router always indicates around 4.5mb. Is there a reason for this discrepency and anything that I can do to increase the speed?
Here is a typical set of stats from my router:
Downstream Upstream
Speed 4508 kbps 396 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 35.1 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 21.0 db
Thanks.

Re: Are these speed stats correct?
3Mb out of 4.5Mb is pretty good!
With network overheads and that! You could try tweaking using TCPOptimizer, But I dont think you will gain much!
Do your stats change when/if you test in the master socket; http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view.php?pg=master

Re: Are these speed stats correct?
How are you connected when doing the speed tests?
ie if wireless, this could be your speed "bottleneck".

Re: Are these speed stats correct?
The stats are the same when I test from the master socket.
I am using a cable connection from the master socket.
...So I guess it is normal for broadband speedtests to show values different than those being shown by router than I guess there is not any problems with my connection.
Thank you both for your help. I will never the less try tweaking with TCP Optimizer and hopefully that will improve things a little.
