How do I upgrade my line so I can go faster!

I am on the max package and here are my stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2283 kbps 500 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 44.4 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 10.0 db

I rang sky and they told me that the line i am on, i think ADSL they said, is the most that it can handle. they said if i was on ADSL+ or ADSL2, I would be able to get better results.

So they told me to ring BT and get them to upgrade the line. BT said I had to ring back SKY and get them to contact 'BT wholesale' and get them to do it!
I rang SKY, and you guessed it, they said ring BT!!!!

Now what shall I do? Anyone had a similar problem? I think my stats are telling me im on 2meg, I want closer to 16!!!!

There is nothing BT can do to upgrade your line other than run it over a more direct route, which is probably not possible, or if it were, fabulously expensive.

The plain fact, looking at your attenuation, is that you have a long line and ADSL of all "flavours" is a distance limited technology. Your attenuation, with current technology, limits your connection speed to a maximum of around 2.75 meg i.e. only a fraction more than you have now.

You'll find a lot of useful information on this forum and this may be a good starting point. Please take the time to register and we look forward to welcoming you to the forum.

I`m afraid you wont get anywhere near 16 mb with your attenuation being that high, your upstream speed being what it is suggests to me that you are on ADSL2 so why Sky cs are telling you your not is beyond me

G-dmt supports upstream speeds of > 400k, an upstream of 500k doesn't suggest ADSL2 at all.
I agree that you're unlikely to squeeze any more speed out of that line though.

Is it worth spending 12.00 on a ADSL Nation face plate?

May give your a little better down stream. Just a thought.

BT I hear are updating there exchanges so people can have 8mb.
      according to:

      Exchange Status Checker

my exchange was completed in march.

but going onto BT's website and doing a internet speed check, they can only offer me there 2mb package.

Is the another place where I can check whats going on with my local exchange?
