Dramatic change 8 days after going live
Hi
I am 450 metres from my exchange but I know I can only get the connect service but I wonder if anyone can help me figure this out.
My service went live last monday and at that point I was getting 6MB download speeds but had frequent disconnects which I understand from other forum posts is to do with exchange "training" but tonight I find that there has been a sudden and dramatic change, now I am getting on average 2.5 MB
Nothing else has changed since I first went live so do you think this is my exchange adjusting and slowing my speeds down?

This is my first post here and just like to say that reading through the other contributions has helped to guide me and increase my understanding so thanks for such a good service

Scroll down to: Should I expect teething problems when I first get 8Mb?
Connect is MAXDSL, so this applies to sky even thou it is from Plusnet support pages

thanks for your quick reply reddwarfcrew
I understand the points explained in your link and I have patiently endured them knowing what was happening.
The reason for my post is nervousness I suppose I am now on the 10th day since going live and up till now my speed has been great but to suddenly drop from what was always just over 6MB to 2.5MB seems quite extreme.
I previously had broadband on this line at 2MB, is it possible that the exchange has tripped me back to this speed?

Okay,
so as i understand from your stats above, your router is synching at 8128kbps (ie 7.9Mb). But your speedtest is only giving you 2.5Mb. Is that correct?
If so, maxdsl takes 3-5 days to reset its stable rate back in line with the actual rate you are synching at. To try and trigger the stable rate to increase to 7.5Mb (it goes in steps of 0.5Mb) you need to reboot your router once a day.
A stable rate of 7.5Mb should give you a speed test of around 6.5Mb.
I'm far from an expert on this, so more than happy for anyone to correct me, but the above is based on my experiences with PlusNet's maxdsl.

I have had occasional drops in speed, Power cycle of the router normally clears the problem. Or go into router menu and disconnect from ASDL then reconnect same result back up to 6.7m. Also check uPNP is switched off in router menu, I had major problems with that during my first 2 weeks with Sky but I think that was killing the wireless connection. Pages loaded at the speed of dial up and I quite often couldn't get to router menu via wireless. turned uPNP of problem disappeared.

@koala5,
as you are on Mid it's different technology to Connect.

Yes reddwarfcrew thats right, although a more recent test now has me creeping back up to 3.5MB
I hope i'm just over-reacting, i guess I will just have to be patient
I have been doing power cycles of the router like you say koala5 and it has been clearing it up. UPnP is disabled now but only because I read people had the problem you mentioned. To start with it was enabled and gave me no problems at all though.
I will just keep an eye on it and see how it goes, but the difference between ~2MB and 6MB is enough to have me praying lol
thanks for your replies guys, I will post an update when I seem to have a constant and stable rate

Connect is on BTs MAXDSL technology
Base,Mid,Max is on LLU technology
I dont know specifically what the difference is, I have just been googling and actually came acros Fibre post on Maxdsl http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6346
I'm sure 'Saturday' has done a similar post of LLU, I'll see if I can find that.
