Your noise margin is kind of low, This could cause your line to be less stable?

Have you tried connecting straight to the TEST SOCKET?

Yep, i got 8128Kbps. I have done another speed test this morning with dslzone and they quoted 473Kbps.

Why is there such a big difference between what the router is saying my download speed is and what "speed test" sites quote

There can be so many reasons. However, in your case it is probably because you have only just got Connect and this service (ADSL MAX) has a 10 day training period. During this time the exchange is "experimenting" with different connection parameters to find the best for your line. Your speeds may well be erratic or slow during this period.

I appreciate what your saying about the training period but what i don't understand is having 2 ie pages open, one for the router and one for the speed test site and between them there about 7500Kbps difference

      Because ...

The high figure (8128) is the maximum possible download speed you will ever get (and it is the speed you router is sync'ing with the exchange at).

The low figure (473) is the current download speed you are currently getting - this can be down to several things inc contention at your exchange but, as has been posted already, is most likely down to you still being in the "training period".
