SpeedTest
I too am disappointed, my stats are:
.5 miles away from center
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12367 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 19.8 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 12.0 db
According to noth routers (sky and Belkin)
I get speeds of 12MB down and 764K up
BUT
onl 15 different tests, I get
3.5 MB down, and 650K up (Good)
Sky tech help say it is correct at 12MB because that is what the router says....Any help here?? Can the router be wrong as my tests and download indictae??

Your attenuation should let you connect at closer to 14500kbps. It also indicates your line length is more than 0.5miles - more like 2,5km.
Improving your filtering may lower the noise on your line and allow a faster connection.
However, from the stats you've given there is no obvious reason why you can only get 3.5mb on a speedtest - assuming that you haven't chosen busy servers at busy times of day.
Try http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/. This seems to give fairly reliable results. Downloading from a good ftp site (e.g. a university) late in the evening is probably the best test.

attenuation, margins, speeds
These are my stats
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13873 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.5 db 16.9 db
Noise Margin 6.6 db 11.5 db
but http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk gives a max if 4mb download and 700kb upload. Is this because of the line attenuation and noise margin.
