      Low speeds...

      Hi all,

Just using my Sky BB connection for the first time today, and I'm finding it to be really, really slow.

I live less than 1Km from my exchange, yet I'm only getting connected at around 2.8Mb down and 488Kbs up. Any ideas what could be going on? Oh and here are the stats from the router:

      System Up Time 00:16:04
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 11540 18772 0 854 28078 00:15:38
      LAN 10M/100M 20119 12853 0 28435 1271 00:16:02
      WLAN 11M/54M 262 0 0 30 0 00:15:52

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2880 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 26.0 db
Noise Margin 4.8 db 20.0 db

Any suggestions for what to do to improve this would be much appreciated.

There are a number of threads around here that say that it will take anything up to 10 days for your speed to be at it's best. If you have a look around you might find these threads

Sorry, made the typical forum noob mistake of not checking out Search first. Anyway, cheers for that, and of course I'll be back in 10 days if my speed still sucks

Your currnet attenuation indicates that you could have mush longer wiring than you would expect for 1km. Do you have a master socket with a face plate? If so I would try your connection directly via the test socket under the faceplate to rule out problems caused by your internal wiring

Hi. I'm new and am only 5 days into my Sky Broadband Experience.....

To be honest the speed is pathetic. I have not had any higher than 0.6Mbps for the last 3 days, the first 2 days I couldn't connect! I'm on the Connect 8Mbps service and it's drastically slower than my previous 2Mbps service.

I'm not going to wait for 10 days for my speed to improve (if it ever does) - it will mean I miss the 8 day cancellation deadline. There is no way I'm paying for this substandard service....back to Demon for me unless Sky pull the bunny out of the hat by Monday!

Those stats are spot on for MAXDSL. Bide your time, your day will come. Also try tweaking your connection (see sticky at top of this forum).
