      Speeds not quite right

      Hi,

Just moved in with my girlfriend and she is with sky broadband. She has always complained that the connection is slow so I followed the tutorial about connecting to the master socket and these are the results:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1943 kbps 406 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 dB 18.8 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 5.9 dB

      Do these look correct?

Little update, the house has a external ringer outside if that makes sense? So when a call comes in a bell rings outside.

Looking at those stats, there is something seriously wrong with your connection.

My first request would be for you to connect the router to the Test socket if you have one. Take a look at the link below and you will see that the page also mentions how to identify the Test Socket:

Sky User - How to test your Master Socket

If you can post the stats from the Test Socket, this would be helpful. Whilst using the Test Socket, all your extensions and the outside bell should be dead. Please check that this is the case.

If the issue is with your internal wiring, then a filtered faceplate would be a good option. What I am not familiar with though is the wiring for the bell, so we need to check all this before suggesting a specific faceplate.

P.S. According to the tool on this site, you should be able to achieve a connection speed of between 10-12mb.
