Day 5 Of DLM, Will it improve further ?

As per the title, thanks in advance !

Went live a week ago today, used to be with TalkTalk Plus Syncing @ 17-21000Kbps, got consistent download speeds of 1.5-1.9MB/s.

So I'm into day 5 roughly of DLM, these are my current stats, seems the noise margin is nearing Sky's limits ? My ping is currently around 36ms pinging bbc.co.uk using CMD, will this improve or do I need to ask for the game profile ? If so how soon should I ask for this ?

      Many thanks in advance !

Just checked 'my sky', states line testing is not currently active ? Doesn't look good then.

      You have problems there
i would check your internal wiring

I have the identical attenuation you have
and my line is capable of 22.8mbit @ 7db margin

Turns out DLM must still be in effect as it resynced ealry in the early hours again.

With regards to the wiring, the drop wire comes in next to the front door of the house, this is connected directly to the one and only master socket, it has a filtered faceplate connected too. I'm also using a high quality RJ11 cable.

Re: Day 5 Of DLM, Will it improve further ?

Whilst many will swear that good quality RJ11 cables are fine, is it possible to use the short grey ADSL lead that is supplied with the Sky router?

Some cables can reduce your connection speed as they aren't so good at times.

Compare the stats. If they are the same, then there should be no issues.

Also could you confirm which router you have please?

Your profile indicates that you have the Sagem 2504. The newest router being shipped by Sky is the Sagem 2504N and has a smooth silver top. I am trying to get confirmation, but I suspect that the newest router is reporting lower Line Attenuation figures than normal, so this will affect any guesses on the potential connection speed.

As it stands at the moment, you still have a little room for improvement, but not enough IMHO to get the full 20Mb that your Line Attenuation indicates should be possible.

Re: Day 5 Of DLM, Will it improve further ?

      Hi Scubbie,

I've used the standard RJ11 cable as suggested, the stats are pretty much the same.

The router I have is indeed the 2504N, it looks like a mini Sky Box with a silver top. Line Attenuation prior to moving to sky was 20dB down.

What do I need to do with regards to ping ? It's currently @ 35ms, is there much room for improvment and would I see a difference ?

      Thanks !

Re: Day 5 Of DLM, Will it improve further ?

35ms is fine for most people.

You could call Sky and ask to be placed on a Gamer Profile once the initial DLM process has completed. This should reduce your ping a little, but may affect your line stability and/or speed.
