Migration from Zen complete, but results a little disappointing...

I've just migrated to Sky BB from Zen MAX ADSL. I'm about 4km from my exchange and yesterday, whilst still on Zen I was getting ADSLGuide speed test results of around 3.5mbps - not exactly setting the world alight, but reasonable considering the distance from my exchange.

I was connected to SkyBB this morning (only 1 day late, so not too bad) and am now getting speed test results on ADSLGuide of around 1.9mbps, which is frankly disappointing. I know I'm paying less, but I thought the 10/month maximum service from Sky might have yielded at least slightly better results than Zen Max ADSL.

I'll post the stats from my router and from http://speedtest.net in case anyone can advise whether I should just accept the lower speed or bother giving Sky a call to see if anything can be done about it:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5419 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.5 db 30.2 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 11.3 db

      Moved to the correct forum

Thats not good at all but then I don't trust that site it gives far to many false readings. I prefer this one http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

I find it a lot more accurate when I need a rough idea how the connection is doing but a good ftp site is the best indicator for a more accurate speed test try this one

      ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/edunfs/mirror...4-bootonly.iso

      25MB file
      Ray

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Even slower today. Down to the following on the speed test site recommended above:

      Last Result:
Download Speed: 1027 kbps (128.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 635 kbps (79.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

That file max's out on 150kb/s for me. So I'm not running at 1/2 the speed I was at yesterday and less than a 1/3rd of the speed I was getting with Zen.

Seriously thinking of cancelling while I still can.

When testing my speeds i usualy use http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ and download one of the files. Gives me the most acurate results i find.

It's not the accuracy of the results that is the issue, they all give about the same within a few kbps. The service IS very slow! I can't even stream video at 100kbps anymore without glitching.

I have now spoken to the hopeless tech support (in India I think) who assure my that my Sky Broadband is not active, and they therefore cannot help me until it is. So basically I'm hallucinating the Internet connection that I'm posting this on, none of you exist and you are all a figment of my imagination, along with my slow Internet access...

I'll wait for the 'Provisions Department' to call me back (so I'm told!) and if I've not heard anything back by tomorrow I'm cancelling and going back to Zen. Hopeless

They are a bit usless, they entered my MAC code incorrect and didn't think to ring me, waited for me to check on the order!

      Anyway good luck!
