A happy customer!...almost
Hi All,
Well after reading lots of negative comments on here and really thinking i`d made a bad move going over to sky broadband from Zen, I can happily say the move was as smooth as silk.
Story goes...I phoned sky up 3 weeks ago to join Sky Max using my promotion code. I got through straight away. Nice customer services guy checked my location and said I was able to get sky max, I`d have to call back with my MAC code from Zen, which I did 3 days later. The router arrived 6 days later along with 2 letters, one with my username the other with my password.
Next day the activation date letter arrived saying 4th october (today).
Today, came in from work. unplugged my old router. Plugged in the sky router. Instant connection. Setup the wireless in 5mins. Painless.
I`m now 25 quid a month better off and have an old router I can sell on ebay ;-)
Now the reason for the almost....
Speed wise I got this when the router was next to my computer (wireless with long phone extension lead).
I was getting 98% strength and 108mps
then when I moved it to lounge, where the phone socket is I`m getting 54% and 18mps and a speed test of only this..
Anyone got an idea why the drastic drop in speeds? I`d expected a slight loss with the lower signal but not that much! My Old dlink router was getting this from the same place in the house....
thanks

Very good stats as for your laptop have you tried some of the ideas in the router forum?

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Thanks. sorted now. Picked up an aerial extension today, signal strength went from 50% upto 75%, now getting 2.5mb/sec downloads instead of 240k/sec.

Bought it from maplin, its a 5.0db gain type. was £14.99
heres the link http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...38211&doy=6m10
Plugged it into my PC`s wireless card and took me about 5mins to find a good position, would jump from about 30% strength upto 90%. Its now on the end of my desk and is fairly stable around 75-80%
. getting 54mps constant where as before the aerial it was around 11mps.

This is the result with the antenna

Happy Customer, Sky should have you stuffed and mounted Lol....
I think we should all expect teething problems hopefully this forum can help, I was one of talktalk's first Broadband customers on my other line had all sorts of problems at first speeds fluctuating etc. my speed is virtually constant now at just under 7mb on an advertised 8 package can't be bad and its free! hopefully Sky will iron out its various gliches in time if I got somewhere near the advertised 16mb for the tenner a month I will be happy upload speed is already double talktalks.
guess we will all have to be patient
