Connection Speed 2002 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 60.0db 37.3db

Unless getting CST to move you to gdmt increases your speed that's your lot

      Re: What can i expect??

First plug your router into the Test socket and post your stats from there.

      Re: What can i expect??

      After finding this:

      Attenuation.............Approximate Line Length............Potential Connection Speed
      32db...................................2.3km...... ...............................16000kbps
      35db...................................2.5km...... ...............................14500kbps
      40db...................................2.9km...... ...............................11800kbps
      45db...................................3.2km...... .................................8500kbps
      50db...................................3.6km...... .................................6500kbps
      55db...................................4.0km...... .................................4500kbps
      60db...................................4.3km...... .................................3200kbps
      65db...................................4.7km...... .................................2000kbps

It beleives im over 4km from the exhacnge but im pretty sure im much closer than that! Is there anything i can do to reduce the line attenuation? When i lived at my mums she was getting a faster speed than this and her place is further fom the exchage than i am, but about maybe 2km!!

      Re: What can i expect??

Assuming you don't have a line fault, then there is no way of decreasing the attenuation other than moving house. However, getting Sky to change your line code to g.dmt will decease attenuation by a few db and will push out slightly more speed.

Edit: Just seen that Sky estimated 4mbps prior to you signing up. No chance you'd get near 4mbps with those stats at the moment.

Did you have a previous ISP, and if so, what speed were you getting?

Are those stats from the test socket (faceplate removed from the master socket) with just a filter connected directly into the socket and then the short grey dsl cable Sky supplied - or are you using any extension cables?

Is there any noise on the landline?

      Re: What can i expect??

Sorry no, no prevoius ISP. First flat with my girlfriend. I thought i would get a good speed as its also a new build!

Can i just phone sky and get them to change it to the line code g.dmt.

The second set of stats are from the test socket, faceplate removed with the filter plugged staright in to the test socket, so slightly worse in the test socket.

      Re: What can i expect??

Can i just call sky and get them to change the line code??

Sorry no, no previous ISP. This is my first place with my G/F. Its a new build flat not more than 2.5KM very very max to the exchange.

These are from the test socket:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1994 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 59.5db 37.4db
      Noise Margin 7.2db 16.0db

And these are from the socket with the faceplate on:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2002 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 60.0db 37.3db
      Noise Margin 7.0db 15.7db

No extenstion cables are used at all. The phone line is newly connected and all is brand new. The faceplate is a new design i believe: has openreach moulded on the casing and no visible wiring on the back of the faceplate. No noise on the phone line as faras i can tell.

Thanks for your help! Is there anything else i can do?

      Thanks again!

      Ben

That may be so, but your line attenuation says your line is much longer, probably a bit over 4K. Call Sky, try to get through to CST* Tell tier 1 you are in the test socket using a new filter and want CST to try your line on G.DMT.
