Technophobe could do with some help please!

      Hi

Have been looking around the forums, have run the speed test, and the following even to my untrained brain looks pretty diabolical:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 141 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 69 db 45 db
Noise Margin 7 db 10 db

Sky Everyday Lite user - just starting a new billing month and stats suggest we've not got half way near our monthly usage (despite having 3 teenagers in the house!).

I've unplugged phones/sky box, replaced splitters etc - yet to locate the phone test socket (new build, nothing's ever as it seems).

My thinking is the speed should be easily 10 times faster than it is? I'm not asking for 20 meg, but something faster than dial up would be good!

Any thoughts - plain speak please. Thanks.

At the moment you are gettin all you can, the only hope is that you find the Master/Test socket and this indicates that you have internal wiring issues.

Hi Your stats you are not a Sky Everyday Lite user. you are on the connect package. The 448kbps is the upload for the connect package which is a Bt re-badged product. A good way to find out is to do a Bt speed test http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...ed-tester.html

If your exchange is Budleigh Salterton you are on Connect, not Everyday lite. that exchange has not been enabled by Sky. TalkTalk are the only LLU presence.

SamKnows - Broadband Availability - Budleigh Salterton (WWBUDL) Exchange

Until you can find your Master socket and isolate it, you are going to have problems. If it is a new build you may have an XNTE box situated outside your house.

In the meantime, unplug everything you have connected to the phone line, plug in the router using only the filter and cable supplied by Sky. Post your stats.

Thanks Steve - have tried the BT Speed Test but it comes back with a message that it can't run the test for my telephone number - have run it a few times having followed the instructions given and get the same response - on that forum someone responds to someone else having that problem saying:

It won't work as you are on Sky's LLU network if on Base. It would only work for a BT based service, ie Sky Connect.

I will have to get back to Sky but am sure I'm subscribing to the Everday Lite package - presumably I can check that with them.

Thanks for the responses guys - must track down the master socket for sure then!

Hi yes that exchange is definitely LLU was Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 23/06/2007 and if you cannot use the Bt speed tester you are on LLU Sky Everyday Lite. About the 448kbps I have only seen a Connection Speed 448kbps on the connect package. There is a first for everything sorry about that. your Line Attenuation 69 db is a very long line from the exchange. here`s the link for the master socket How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket Here`s the link for the exchange checker http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search Welcome to Sky User
