      Less than 0.1Mb/s download?

Over the last couple of weeks we've seen a dramatic drop in connection speeds, mainly in the evening but other times as well.

      Router stats show

Connection Speed 6752 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 19 db
Noise Margin 5 db 23 db

Speedtest currently shows these awful figures:

Apart from upgrading to another package (currenly on Connect), does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi The connect package is Traffic Managed from 5pm till Midnight. Unless your Exchange has Sky LLU there is no Upgrade. Also your noise Margin Downstream is a bit low.

Plug into your Test socket if you have one and post the stats from there.

      Re: Less than 0.1Mb/s download?

We've had the router plugged into the master socket since we changed to Sky 18 months ago. Do you think one or more of our filters may be malfunctioning?

Unfortunately our local exchange (Blunham), although less than 2k away is unlikely to be unbundled any time soon.

We haven't been downloading any more than usual recently, never exceeded our monthly limit.

I'm assuming that enough other people in the area have signed up to Sky and the 50:1 ratio has been exceeded.

I'll be contacting Sky and getting my MAC code shortly I think.

Hi The connect package is over subscribed not enough bandwidth there are rumours that Sky are going to buy more after the summer the link http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...owed-down.html page 165.
Also Sky have unbundled 68 exchanges in June and July around the U.K. SamKnows - Sky / Easynet LLU The reason Isitme has asked for the test from the master socket is to see if there is any difference in your stats. To see if they are better from the master socket. Here`s another link about the connect package http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...ect-users.html

The master socket is not the Test socket. If you have hardwired extensions, there can be a big difference between the two. It is possible you have faulty filters, the best way to check this is to unplug everything from your extensions and check the stats with each filter plugged into the Test socket. With your attenuation you should be syncing at the full rate for BT Max, 8128kbps.

Getting the sync right is not going to improve your peak time speed much, but it will improve your non peak speed.

You appear to have O2 LLU available on your exchange, if I were you I would change to them as fast as your fingers can dial. They are about the best ISP you will find.

Hi Tom I should have explained that the test is from the inside of the Master Socket as per link How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket
The reason Isitme has asked for the test from the master socket is to see if there is any difference in your stats. To see if they are better from the master socket.

      Re: Less than 0.1Mb/s download?

I will try checking the filters - I've got a spare one somewhere.
After midnight I found speeds going up to around 4Mb, so I suspect it is traffic management kicking in.
Thanks for the advice on O2 Isitme, I'll think I'll give them a go if my socket/filter tests don't help.

Hi if the exchange as you say is Blunham. There is no LLU available at that exchange. Here`s the link SamKnows - Telephone Exchange Search so you can check to make sure

      Re: Less than 0.1Mb/s download?

yeah the 01767 code is for South East rural bedfordshire and covers several exchanges, my Parents and Brother are on the Sandy Exchange which is O2 LLU but I would be surprised if Blunham was done as it is a small place (it was last time I went there)

Anyways for speed testing stay away from Speedtest.net they are horribly inaccurate use the one on this site it seems to perform a whole lot better.
