      Here's my ping:-

      C:\Users\Antony>ping BBC - Homepage

Pinging BBC - Homepage [212.58.244.70] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from 212.58.244.70: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=56
      Reply from 212.58.244.70: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=56
      Reply from 212.58.244.70: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=56
      Reply from 212.58.244.70: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=56

      Ping statistics for 212.58.244.70:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 31ms, Maximum = 34ms, Average = 32ms

An average time of 32ms, considering you are getting 29ms with your speedtest.net I don't think yours is much better.

ADSL is fine for gaming, I have played online games since they first came out and even had a dual bonded ISDN line installed before ADSL was around to play online, pings were anywhere from 60-120ms then and there was no issue.

You really don't have a clue what you are talking about, a stable ping on an uncongested and none traffic managed network is much better than what the majority of cable subscribers are on.

Copied from PM, why when there is an open discussion here is beyond me, but as you asked I assume you meant ping results and not my opinions on your advice.

1st is our BFBC2 game server, 2nd as it says.

Clearly you have NO CLUE what you are saying.

      1. go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

      2. Test on a New Zealand Server (Wellington is good).

      3. Post link.

How can you ever test the quality of the connection if the server is so close to you?

      Where do you live?

Im guessing the bbc server is based in london.

Considering that, i am 250 Miles away.

      When i ping them i get 13 - 14ms ping.

That's over twice as good as what you are getting.

      60 - 120ms is good??

      Are you serious???

I get 5 - 30ms on every online pc game.

I always get picked as host on Call of Duty and very frequently on Halo/Gears.

Again you're ping is horrible to a server in you're own back garden.

Go on try and do a speedtest to American servers or anywhere in the world.

You're speed will dramatically drop and you're ping with dramatically increase.

Lol ok so cable gives an awesome ping does it..... explain this then...

This is using 1Gb dedicated fibre connection so the contention is 1 to 1 (this is local government before you say that a 1Gb connection doesn't exist!) Further proof that speedtest is in no way accurate.

Pinging bbc.co.uk via cmd give me a ping of 3!

I dont get what you want me to explain?

You're ping of 3 is possibly achieved as it may have a direct link to a London based server/you may be in London yourself.

My college internet (taken from The University of Manchester) was 100 / 100 Mb and it achieved 10ms to bbc, so my 13ms aint bad....

But judging by that speedtest MY HOME CONNECTION is better than that 1 Gb connection.

      Virgin Media ftw.

No ADSL connection can match my connection.

As we both posted at the same time, it could hardly be you. I was referring to Post 23, he is not on Sky but is on ADSL..

Erm, I know it wasn't me, that's why i was asking.

He ping is actually really bad.

You clearly don't understand how ping works.
