Speed test results compared to sync rate
Can anyone help explain why my speed test results are actually about a third of my sync rate, whether the latter be around 15.3Mb/s or 8Mb/s (using my old ADSL1 router)?
So, Sky piece of *@£! netgear router sync rate of 15.3Mb/s, speed test (www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk) gives about 4.5Mb/s. Old 2Wire router sync rate of 8Mb/s gives a download rate of about 2.5Mb/s. The tests were performed within a fairly short space of time so as to minimise discrepencies due to network traffic.
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

Try rebooting, you may have a low NM that is causeing lots of packets to be discarded

I had a similiar problem when connecting via wireless. I noticed that via ethernet the download speeds were what I expected.
A quick session with TCP Optimiser (run for the Wireless adapter) sorted the problem out on both my PCs.
