      Non-Sky Router

I am new to Sky broadband and I have to say was a bit disappointed with the cheapo plastic router supplied. I am pretty sure a decent Netwgear or even Cisco router would give better results especially with connections of low S/N margin. Can somebody give the official Sky position on replacing this router - I presume service issues, fault reporting etc would be effected ??

      Thanks

      Re: Non-Sky Router

Sky's T&C's insist you use a Sky supplied Router. However many don't and few seem to have had any problems with Sky. If you use a 3rd party router you can hardly expect Sky to offer you support if you are breaking your contractual agreement.

If you decide to use an alternate router you can extract your username and password using https://www.cm9.net/skypass/

I have tried using the password generator to extract my password, but it the password it gave me didn't work.

Is this utility for a specific firmware version, as i am on 1.9sky and pretty sure that its quite a recent one, maybe they have changed the way the password is generated?

No the password generator does work. If it gives the wrong info, then you have feed in the info required incorrectly.
