Upgrade to 20 Mb has made no difference

      Hi,

Sorry very green in all this broadband speed issues! Upgraded to Unlimited (2/4) and know it is up to 20Mb but the performance I have hasn't changed since my upgrade from the base package.

Have the following connected to the phone sockets.

      Router (on a filter)
      SKY+ HD (no filter)
      SKY+ (no filter)
Monitored alarm (directly connected to the phone socket)

      Are filters that important?

I have checked the router in the master socket and in my office and no difference. Also 1.6km from Exchange.

Before I contact Sky are there any tips that the novice can check or words they can use to Sky to get this resolved?

      Pasted from my router.

      This is too hard!!!

Yes, the filters are important. You need to ensure every single telephone socket in use has a filter as the first thing into the telephone socket. Telephony devices can fit into the phone side and the dsl cable will go into the modem side of the filter. Also, ensure your router is connected to the master socket.

After doing that, you'll see an increase in the noise margins, which is what you're looking for. After this increase, then you can call sky to uncap your speed.

By the way, unless the unfiltered sockets etc. are adding A LOT of attenuation to your stats, then you are a good bit further than 1.6km from the exchange. I'd say 3km+.

is the alarm hard wired into a socket? as if so, you'll need to have that re-wired too as if it can't be filtered yo'll always have issues

      Thanks guys!

Everything is either on a filter now or disconnected. The alarm is a different story; you'll see me popping up on British Gas forums next with some sorry story.

That looks much better, now you need to ring Sky and go through the slow speed troubleshooting, they should then reconfigure your line.
