you're heavily capped, time to call Sky but before make sure you're in the test socket with only Sky-supplied cables and make sure it doesn't revert back to normal...

Re: whats up with my stats

just got off the phone to sky after going through the usual questions about the test socket etc I didnt say about the filtered face plate but was asked about any phones connected and the sky plus phone wire, obviously i was on the phone so I couldnt lie about that one when i said id check the order of connection of filter phone etc the line went dead out of curiosity I removed the filtered faceplate and put a filter in the test socket an here are a much better set of results but no phone line because thats wired to the back of the filtered faceplate.does this mean I should be shouting at the faceplate not sky?

      in a word, yes...

which faceplate did you get? remember that the extension wiring should go to the 2 and 5 pins on the back - nowhere else

Re: whats up with my stats

I got the adsl nation one.

Now im really confused though, just removed filter, replaced filtered faceplate put the sky plus lead in fitted the screws so its back exactly to how i started and I get the same sort of speeds and noise margins. It doesnt look like anything wrong with the faceplate the router just needed to reboot, why would this make so much difference?
heres my stats back to original filtered faceplate

the noise margin has gone down a bit is this better?

When was the last time you had rebooted the router prior to your first post? Perhaps you had a large noise spurt, the router then resynced at a much lower speed and soon after the noise had gone from the line. Rebooting would then mean the noise margin would target 7db again, with the speed you had previously.

Re: whats up with my stats

Going back to the first stat you posted it looks like there was bad interference on your line which caused it to drop and resync at the best speed it could at the time. The interference then disappeared allowing your noise margin to rise. When you moved the router to the Test socket it resynced at a better speed. I looks to me like your speed is capped to 6336, if it were not it would have synced a bit higher.

As long as your noise margin stays steady and does not drop low again, you have nothing to worry about. You are on ADSL1 (G.DMT) which is probably the best mode for it if it is subject to occasional noise. If your speed drops again, simply reboot your router.

Re: whats up with my stats

Thanks everyone I didnt think there could be much wrong because as I said it has been fine for ages it just put a real downer on things when I saw the router stats so low. I guess it must have been the neighbours bt engineer fixing up his phone line and shouting for tea making all the noise on my line

the last time my router would have been rebooted was probably a week or so ago it occasionally drops me out of xbox live and has to reboot but since I took the advice on this site to fit the faceplate it only drops out now and again.

Anyway Im much happier now going back to work knowing when I come back in I can battle it out on mw2 at full speed thanks again!
