New LLU customer - poor speeds?

      Dear all,

My brother has been wih sky broadband unlimited since 18th March 2010, and has now passed the DLM period. His speed is as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7003 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 13 db
Noise Margin 9 db 11 db

this is from the router, plugged into the master socket (with faceplate off) via a microfilter, therefore eliminating any extensions or noise around the house (he has no extensions in the house).

That speed seems pretty poor - i get upto 15mb with a higher attenuation at my place. Has skys DLM gone wrong? im not too sure why his speeds are so low.

Which telephone number do i call or email address do i use to sort this out?

      many thanks in advance

From the stats the line is not looking good. Do the stats change if you change the filter? It's the noise margin which is the important part here, if you look at your own stats you will see you probably have better noise margin levels.

Have not changed the filter yet, will give it a go - I did feel the margin was a little low. If that does not change things, is the noise coming from the line outside of the house? I think it's a new line he had installed as cable was being used in the house previously

If you are plugged into the Test socket then the interference is on the external line. Try a quiet line test by plugging a corded phone on its own into the Test socket. Dial 1 digit and listen, if you hear any crackles or other noise apart from a quiet hiss, report it to the phone rental provider as a noisy line.

It is not so much the noise margin is low, it isnt, but it is low in relation to the attenuation and present sync speed.

When you are swapping the filter and also checking for noise on the line, also grab your own sky router and adsl cable and connect it up at your brother's place. Check if the noise margin changes with the new router. If none of the above do anything, then call up sky and get it passed to CST to see if they can find any faults.
