my ever decreasing bb speed ! advice wanted please

ive read a few posts on here just now about slow speeds and was hoping if someone could confirm if what i understand is correct !
      Here are my stats :
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2043 kbps 606 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 31.8 db
Noise Margin 9.4 db 12.0 db

i started off on 3.6mb download speed about 3 years ago and this has steadily gone down to the 2mb that it is at now, the 2mb only being very recent - making iplayer, skyplayer and anything else to do with the internet pretty rubbish, just downloading anything is painfully slow !

As i understand it - feel free to correct me if i'm wrong
i am about 3.6km from my exchange but it appears form my 606 upstream figure that im on adsl2 - whereas i should be on gdmt - and if i ring Sky they may change me back to gdmt ?

      does this sound correct?

      Thanks

Re: my ever decreasing bb speed !

I thought my lousy broadband couldn't get slower. Sometimes I stay up until the wee hours of the morning so I can have broadband speeds outside the Sky throttle times. Now even those speeds have dropped by nearly half and Sky has such horrible customer service that it's pointless to call them. Add to that the 45 minutes minimum I'll wait on hold all while being charged by Sky for the call to try and get help with a product they've sold me that doesn't live up to their advertisement. They've got a good scam going.

Well get your MAC and move, not sure why you would stick with such a poor package

Re: my ever decreasing bb speed !

thats the other thing though - if we did move to another isp would we still have the same issues as we're having with Sky ?
As i'm 3.6 km from the exchange, there is no cable in my area (i don't particularly live in the middle of nowhere either, i live in a reasonably sized town) would BT or any other ISP still not be able to give me a decent speed ?
Or as I've mentioned above, am i just on the wrong settings with Sky ?
The annoying thing is i've been getting 3.5mb for the last couple of years with no problems so am well p***d off that they've lowered my speed so i cant even watch iplayer without it buffering every few minutes
gets even more depressing when the guys i work with and who live in cardiff have just had 50Mb broadband :-(

Post your stats from the Test socket.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

You are probably correct in that you would do better on G.DMT, but as your line is not that long, ADSL2+ should run on it OK.

Welshyyy, your not having the same problem as Emrobin, he is on Sky Connect and that has some serious issues. As you are on an LLU package, your problem is more to do with the setup and line.

It is Emrobin that I directed the question of moving to.

No sure here but if welshyyyyy in on Sky base
According to his Profile he is in Unlimited!

He needs to post his stats from the Test socket.

If I had more options I would have moved a long time ago. I'll tolerate it until I move back to the US in August. Then I'll return to my previous ISP where you get the advertised speed and your DSL line is dedicated to you and doesn't slow down during peak times. Broadband is just different over here and it's my fault that I assumed broadband was the same over here as in the US. I have definitely learned to appreciate the customer service in the US in my time over here.

Your best option would be Plusnet, they offer one month contracts and you will see a massive improvement in your useability. August is a long way off yet so it is certainly worth a few phone calls to get it done.
