You Tube was unusable on Connect tonight, kept getting the circular sign rotating (!) whilst watching a music video.

HI the reason is slow speed it would have been re-buffing 5pm till Midnight sometimes really slow if you do a Bt test when that happens you will see how slow the speed is. Also do a Bt test when there is no Traffic Shaping say morning you will see the difference in the speed.
