Is there anymore in the pot for me?
Hello everyone.
Just a quickie question. Looking at my simple stats does anyone think I could get more. I have been with Sky for a while and my speeds have always been around what you can see. I live rural and have, so I am told, alluminium telephone lines. A throwback from the war I am told. Also I am not that close to the exchange so I am not expecting anything more really. Having said that I thought I would just ask anyway.
My router is a white netgear original and I am connected to the master socket via a filtered face plate. I have no other telephone sockets in the house and only one telephone connected also via the filtered face plate.

Re: Is there anymore in the pot for me?
Hi Steve
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I thought that would be the case I am not that familiar with attenuation, noise margins and all that stuff but I am avid lurker on this forum so I had guessed that what you said would be the case. No harm in asking though. I suppose if I want the country life and cows and sheep I have to give up something LOL. The speed is okay for me I dont do a lot of heavy surfing or downloading these days
I shall just have to watch the birds and the cows.
Cheers

Re: Is there anymore in the pot for me?
You could push out slightly more speed, maybe half a meg or so, as you're capped at 2048 it would seem. However, it's nothing you're going to really notice and my opinion would be to leave it where it is to keep it stable and error-free.

Re: Is there anymore in the pot for me?
Good Evening
Today I have been connected to Sky unlimited broadband after suffering the variable speeds of Orange broadband, I appreciate I am now just starting my 10 day DLM period but with my stats as below can anyone give me a rough guide as to what speed I might be able to achieve with Sky.
I have to admit to having been monitoring this forum for some time as a friend of mine has been on Sky broadband for some time and likes it very much.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Re: Is there anymore in the pot for me?
G3WYP, you should see around 9-10mb with that attenuation.

Re: Is there anymore in the pot for me?
Thanks Dholdi
My upload is usually more than that I have to admit. Download is about normal though.
I have just spent 3 weeks trying to get a friend of mines connection sorted with TalkTalk. Not all in one go I will admit but it took 3 weeks in all to get her speed up from around dial up speed so I don't fancy going through all that again with sky. I think I'll leave it as it is and maybe look for someone else who isn't going to be as abysmally bad in the support section as Sky and TalkTalk seem to be.
I like cows and birds anyway and when the good weather gets here I wont be on the net at all.
Thanks all anyway.
