      Router statistics

Just got my Sky BB today and been having a look through the forums, seems to be quite a bit about router statistics. I've got mine, see below and was curious what I should be looking for? Obviously connection speeds should be high, but am I looking for high or low values for line attenuation and noise margin? Only on day 1 so not fussed that only got 4mb download, let's hope it goes up though.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 25.0 db 10.6 db
      Noise Margin 14.4 db 17.6 d

      Re: Router statistics

With your low attenuation your noise margin should be much higher, Plug into your Test socket, using only the cables and filter supplied and post your stats from there.

Not much difference, will this have an impact on possible speeds?

Is there any noise when you are on the phone, you should just hear a low hiss anything more needs reporting.

      I am afraid it will.

Can you check that you are in the Master socket, some houses have more than one NTE5 socket. Trace the line back to where it enters your house, look for junction boxes with more than 2 cables going in/out.

Check that all your other sockets are dead when the faceplate of the Master is removed. Do you have an alarm which calls back alerts?

      Re: Router statistics

Surely if the OP has only just started with Sky he has been put on the default speed and eventually DLM will kick in and configure his line accordingly -- or has all that changed again?
He has a good 7dB in hand in the downstream noise margin so should see better download speed when DLM has finished.
A filtered faceplate on the master wouldn't go amiss to isolate the effects of any extension wiring (assuming he has any).

With a speed of 4095 and an attenuation of 24.5, 7dbs is not nearly enough. This would only give him another 2-3 Mb at most. With his attenuation he should be looking at around 18Mb with a good line.
