      Help Broadband Speed is Awful

      Hi

      Can anyone help me?

      I've had Sky broadband for a couple of years but last few months has seen the connection speed steadily decrease.

      When I access the router netgear (dg834gt) it states the speed as 1020kbps but it used to be higher than this.

      I tested the connection by removing the BT faceplate and using the master socket but no improvement.

      I've also removed the bellwire from the socket leaving the wires connected to terminals 2 and 5 only.

      Still no improvement.

      When I use speedtest.net it measures the download speed on average at 0.85 meg.

      If you can please help.

      Hi these are the stats when i plug the router directly into the master socket.

      When you say 'master' socket, do you mean the test socket? As in have you unscrewed the faceplate off the master socket and plugged in there? If so, can you confirm all you have in the test socket is a (different) filter with just the short light grey dsl cable that sky supplied and no extension cables?

      If so, then your stats show you're pushing out as much as possible at the moment. Do you have any crackling/static present on your phone line?

      Hi

      Yes i removed the faceplate from the bt socket and plugged the router directly into the socket behind it.

      I used a filter and the short grey lead that came with the router.

      The phone line sounds a little crackly but not enough to cause problems during phone calls.

      If the phone line sounds crackly then that is the problem, it is causing errors on the broadband, you need to report it to the company you pay the line rental to, once that is sorted, it will then fix your connection.

      If it is BT that you pay your line rental to, DO NOT report a problem with the broadband, just the voice line as it will confuse matters.
