    Slow connection

This is a discussion on Slow connection within the Speed tests and how to get better results forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; As I understand it we don't need microfilters since we have a filtered faceplate, so that shouldn't be an issue ...

      Re: Slow connection

As I understand it we don't need microfilters since we have a filtered faceplate, so that shouldn't be an issue (unless the plate is faulty, I suppose).
As it is possible the faceplate is faulty, it is worth checking in the Test socket. Remember your speed will not increase as it is capped, but your noise margin may.

You don't have one of those awful aluminium lines do you?

      Re: Slow connection

Have had it in the test socket, noise margin changed by maybe 1db, is that significant at all?

Not sure if I have an aluminium line, it wouldn't surprise me to find yoghurt pots and string have been used to save a few bob, is there any way of finding out? (and I guess if I do there's no hope of improvement)

      Re: Slow connection

1db is not enough to be significant. I don't know of any way to tell, apart from asking BT. I know BT have replaced thousands of metres of ally over the last few years as they have discovered it has a much shorter effective life than copper.
