      Sagem F@st modem 2504 problems

I have recentley taken delivery of this new modem and plugged it all in, after which it worked fine when the laptop was sitting 2 inches away but if i move the laptop into another room or downstairs then the connection and speed whitter away to almost nothing, and trying to conect the PS3 whilst downstairs is a nightmare. I just carried out a speed rest whilst the laptop and modem were connected via an ethernet cable and the download speed was only 296kbps. Can someone help plse.

If you have just joined Sky your line will be on its training speed. You should have been advised of this in your activation letter. Post your stats for confirmation.

The wireless problem is different. You should try changing the channel and mode in the router. Try No 13 for the channel and 54g Performance for the Mode.

If you are in a heavily populated area, download and use Inssider from the link below. This will show you all the networks in your area and the channels they are using, Use a channel as far from those in use as possible.

You have some serious line problems. Can you now plug into the Test socket and take your stats from there. Please do not use a telephone extension, use only the cables supplied. The stats can be taken by wireless. Click the Test socket link below for details.

Re: Sagem F@st modem 2504 problems

Thanks for that, small problem in that the socket I am using is not a master socket and is an extension run from the main inlet which comes into the house. Idont have any master sockets as described?

Re: Sagem F@st modem 2504 problems

Trace the main BT line comeing into the house, the first socket it is connected to is the master socket.

If you remove the faceplate off itm you will see a capacitor on the rear of it. When you do this, check to see if there are any wires connected to terminal 3m if there are, remove them, you do not need them and they will drag your connection down.

Now check every other socket in the house and ensure that the very FIRST thing plugged into them is an ADSL filter, this goes in before anything else like extensions and splitters etc.

Once you have done this, post your stats again.
