Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

All of the Homeplug manufacturers recommend that you do not plug into a suppressor. The ones you link to would be OK but comparable products can be found cheaper. - POWERLINE ADAPTERS, Computing, Consumer Electronics, bt vision items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

You are on ADSL2+, so this could be slowing your connection. You could try asking Sky to try your connection on G.DMT, it may not make any difference, but it is worth a try.

Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

      What's G.GMT?

Also my Downstream seems to be getting slower, it's at 4mb now. In the details stats it says MAX 6096 but the downstream is now 4096.

Why is it degrading? Has it got anything to do with me checking these stats through my usb wireless adapter?

Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

G.DMT(sorry about the earliiier typo) is basically ADSL1. See here - ITU G.992.1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Taking the stats from wireless makes no difference. Wireless only effects actaul down load speeds.

If you like you can try an experiment. As you have the GT router you could install James' CU firmware. This is an improved version of the Sky firmware which allows you to do some more tweaks. One of these is the ability to change the mode from ADSL2+ to G.DMT. If you would like to try it download the firmware from here - http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...34gt-2.html#58

You only need the firmware, not the source code. Download it to your desktop, open the router settings and click the Router Upgrade link on the left. Browse to where you saved the firmware and click the Upload button. The firmware will be loaded on to your router. You wil find you now have an extra item at he bottom of the Menu called 'Extras'. Click this and a new page will open. Under additional ADSL Settings use the drop down box to change your mode to G.DMT.
Now try your stats, see if there is any difference.

Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

Tried the other setting with the new firmware but down and upstream stayed the same.

Anything else worth a try? Why did my speed go lower, because of line quality?

Do you think it could go down even more?

Did you remember to click the Apply button when you made the change? Would you like to try it again and post the detailed stats?

Adsl2 uses a wide frequency than ADSL1 so any noise in the higher frequencies will cause problems. This may be oversimplifying it, but it is basically what happens.

Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

Comparing your stats, it looks like you would get slightly more if you line was on G.DMT, about another 1Mb. You could try to get Sky to move you back to G.DMT but unless you were lucky enough to get an agent who was prepared to try, they will probably tell you nothing can be done. It is up to you whether you want to try.

I would return the Mode to ADSL2+ now, but before doing so, you might want to try it on ADSL2, see if there is any improvement in the noise margin/speed.

These are similar to your ADSL2+ test. I would return it to ADSL2+ and see if you can get Sky to try it on G.DMT. You have nothing to loose really, they will either do it or refuse.

Re: Getting slow speeds but should i be?

Ok so i phoned sky, asked them to switch me back to ADSL 1 and the guy wanted to check the stats first.

He said i should be getting atleast 6mb and said he's going to manually set it at that speed. He said make sure you don't turn your router of for the next couple of days.

It's been working now for 2 days and it's stuck at 6mb.

During the first time they resynced the line i had to disconnect the router a couple of times, is that why the speed dropped?
