      Newbie Stats Question Again Sorry...

      Hi Everyone,

Another newbie hear trying to squeeze abit more out of my Sky Mid Broadband.

Just removed the ring wire from my master socket and ran the router stats and this is what came back:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3071 kbps 606 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 29.8 db
Noise Margin 15.9 db 17.0 db

I'm roughly 1686m from the exchange and I just ran the speed test on Sky User and these are the stats that came back :

We have detected that your ISP is Sky - Your current download speed is 2608Kbps, and your current upload speed is 502Kbps.

      By pinging www.bbc.co.uk I get :

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from: 212.58.224.138 bytes=32 in 37 ms TTL=128
      Reply from: 212.58.224.138 bytes=32 in 37 ms TTL=128
      Reply from: 212.58.224.138 bytes=32 in 38 ms TTL=128
      Reply from: 212.58.224.138 bytes=32 in 38 ms TTL=128

Is this the best I can get or can I get more out of it.

      Cheers Folks

You should be able to get 5-6mb now. You need to ring Sky and tell them you have repaired your wiring and can they manually configure it.

Aye call em up and ask for a ticket to go in for the line config, you have speed to come yet. If you want to speed up the call a bit plug into your test socket before calling and tell em you have changed filters but your speed is low due to an issue you have had fixed. If you don't and you get a TS agent not paying attention you will go through the full "low speed troubleshoot" just to get a sniff at a ticket.

How long have you been a Sky BB customer because that speed looks suspiciously like the normal starting speed of the Mid/Everyday package, in which case you should leave alone and give DLM a chance to complete.

I've been with Sky broadband from when it started. I just got off the phone and the guy I was speaking to tells me looking at my stats this is the most stable connection I can get.

He said Sky have been running a program from 11th Oct to 16th Oct testing customers connections throught the exchange and line by using a program that raises the speed in small increments until it becomes unstable and this is why I only have 3071kbps availible as its the most stable.

      Is this true?

It does not appear to be, unless you have a very large swing in the noise on your line. With you present noise margin you should get 5-6Mb. Try the 'delay' trick. Phone up and tell them you are a gamer and want your delay reduced. When you get through to CST, ask them to reconfigure your line for its best speed.

Get back onto them nad ask them again to increase the speed, then person you speak to may be more helpful to you.
