      would adsl2 be better?

      These are my current stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7296 kbps 896 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 13.0 db

I spoke to sky today and they put my line onto adsl2 to see what happened. They reported that it was training at 7.9M however there system reported a max stable speed of 6.5M.

They also stated that my line was on dlm however the web page has always stated line testing not in progress. They removed the dlm and up'd my upload spead, at the same time dropping download from 7.5 to 7.3M.

They are also sending me the new router - i currently have the white netgear.

Anyone have any views on this - advice would be appreciated. Maybe i am at my max and should be happy lol.

You are currently at your max for your setup, Have you tried getting the stats from the test socket (see sig)?

Where? Just copy and paste them it is a lot easier than posting images if that is what you have tried to do.

Sorry, I misread your post. If these are from the Test socket it looks like you have a problem with the line. Do you hear any noises on the voice line?

Try taking your stats when you are making a call on your phone. See if there is a change.

out of interest, what makes you think there is a problem with the line? There is no change when making a call.

You should be getting a faster connection than you are getting with your attenuation of 38db.

Thats what i thought. What should i be expecting? I have a ticket for tier 2 but not sure how i can get a better speed. With an attenuation of 38dB i thought adsl2 should be ok, but sky said there system indicated a max stable speed of only .6.5M. They also reckon that i am 5km from exchange, but doesnt 38dB suggest closer.

Your attenuation should give around 9 to 10Mb depending on the line, but as a min I would expect at least 8Mb with your attenuation.
My attenuation is 43db and I get 13Mb.
