Andy has an exceptionally good line and router, which we are all envious of But as he says you should be syncing at 10-11 Mb with anything like a decent line. I sync at 9300 with an attenuation of 40dbs.

Doesnt going from g.dmt to adsl2 add about 2db onto the line attenuation? if so i guess i should be around 9mb.

Any ideas how i should proceed?

With line atten of 38db and sn of only 7db does that suggest i have a bad line. anything sky could do ie boost the signal? if im on a quiet call ie just pressing a number as if im dialing out. i can hear some background noise, but not sure if this is my dect phone. i also had problems in the past with echo, ie if i talk i could here my voice in the speaker, however this has now stopped.

Not in itself it doesn't, but he fact that you are only syncing at 7296kbps does. If you were syncing at 10500kbps with an attenuation of 38dbs and a noise margin of 7dbs that would be fine.

You really need to do the quiet line test with a corded phone connected directly to the Test socket. Anything else and you could be picking up interference. Can you try it with a corded phone? If you still get noise you can report it to your rental provider.

My attenuation is 43db and I get 13Mb.

Attenuation is only part of the story. Line noise is an important factor too. A noisy line can fall far short of expectations - my line has an attenuation of 46dB, but only syncs at 5120kbps. Even worse on ADSL2+ (3800kbps). There's nothing you can do (short of moving house).

I read somewhere that, lets say the downstream power on your stats says 1.0, but it said something like the power should be 17 upwards, was it talking rubbish.
