Those are with the telephone connected and the comtrend disconnected. But I remember looking at the connection, noise, etc when I had them connected later and they were the same.

My ping is still bad even with the new router, any ideas?

Try removing the phone from the filter to see if your noise margin increases.

You can contact Sky and tell them your pings are very high and you would like to have your Max Delay reduced. They should pass you on to CST to have this done and that should do the trick but be warned reducing the Max Delay can also make the line less stable and they may want to reduce your speed to compensate.

      Not much and Yes.

Also, have you tried my suggestion re. disconnecting the phone.

Just tried with my phone line disconnected.

At one point it said 7.2 db and then i checked it again while typing this and it said 7.7 db and now it says 7.1 db again!! Does it change that much?

I did some speed test and the ping was basically the same as when i had the telephone line connected. Even did a simple ping test to bbc.co.uk and they were the same again.

      Re: Is this bad latency?

The ping isn't going to be affected by this, I was just wondering if the noise margin jumped by much if the phone was removed from the equation. Under normal circumstances, and particularly at night the noise margin can jump around a fair bit.

      Thanks for your help.

      Right, best phone sky then.

      Cheers

      Re: Is this bad latency?

Well i contacted Sky about the max delay. They said they have reduced the delay to 8ms and also a few other tweaks that should help if the line is used for gaming.

These are my stats now (taken at 8pm in the evening)

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4032 kbps 576 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 13.0 db

      http://www.speedtest.net/result/579136952.png

I have seen it connected over 5mg and the down noise margin at 7.2db.
Also the speed test have shown a slightly lower ping response and over 5mg download.

Would you say this is a lot better?

Not had any problems since the changes were made.

      Thanks for all your help.

      Cheers

      Carl

      Re: Is this bad latency?

Don't rely on Speedtest.net, it is a rubbish speedtester and even worse at ping times. If you want an accurate reading, open a Command Prompt and ping jolt.co.uk or bbc.co.uk

With a longish line you will usually loose a bit of speed when delay is reduced.
