new results, i plugged into the test socket and got this result

Download Speed: 10125 kbps (1265.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 634 kbps (79.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

so from that i presume one of these new faceplate jobbies will help my speeds.

Its now synced at almost 12mbit and getting 10, i'd be happy with that

thanks for the welcome. I like the site, lots of good stuff on here

My only hesitation is the location of the master socket, its next to the front door, while the rest of my network (2 wired desktops) is at the back of the house :/.

i'd use the wifi for downloading stuff anywhere but the wireless speeds i get from the router seem to stick at about 3mbit .

This is gonna need some thought, but in the mean time at least i have 3 extra mbits, if not the 6 the line is apparently capable of.

Im getting the same 3mb on the wireless, I ran the TCP optermiser on mine and it picked up to 4mb on the wireless, and the distance on my router is quite a way, so it may help.
