If those are the sort of stats you're getting throughout the day then you wont be seeing any increase in your downstream connection speed, although your upstream will increase.

A line attenuation of 38 should give around 12meg dl on unlimited.

I should have said he wont see any benefit upgrading UNLESS he sorts out his obvious line problem

Try the test socket to see if internal wiring is causing problems, link below with details in my sig. Then repost your stats.

Thanks Neil. Sorry bit of a newb at this so not picking up on what the "obvious" line problem is. Any pointers gratefully received.

Have tried modem directly plugged into faceplate and the master socket and the results are below. Any advice gratefully received!

Re: Another what speed on Unlimited

It still looks like there is a problem somewhere along the line because your speed is very low, when you pick up the phone press any number to get rid of dial tone is there any noise, crackles or pops etc.
Does every socket in the house that you use have a microfilter on.

Re: Another what speed on Unlimited

When you remove the faceplate on the master socket to uncover the test socket below, are all the other extenions in the house dead?

They should be, if not then you have a wiring issue.

Also when you do this, remove any wires connected to terminal 3 on the faceplate, you don't need them and they can cause speed problems. Just pull them out or snip them off.

Do you have extensions? If not there will be little difference between the faceplate and the Test socket. You are using the Test socket, link below?

Getting the stats by cable or wireless makes no difference, so don't bother about taking different ones. Using wireless will only make a difference when comparing actual download speeds.

Hi. Thanks for all your replies. I have an ADSL Nation faceplate fitted. When I remove it to use the master socket the extension upstairs and the Sky box/Tivo extension are disconnected.

      Stats this afternoon are
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 24.0 db
Noise Margin 7.5 db 14.0 db
