What speed my line can support.....?

I used your ADSL Line Speed Calculator to try and find out what speeds my telephone line can support. I entered my telephone number and postcode and it returned these results:

We have determined that your line is capable of upto 2 mb or 250 Kbps.

      Full Details:

      * 1/2mb service not viable
      * 500Kbps/256Kbps most likely unviable, engineer check needed to confirm.
      * ADSL MAX (upto 8mb) is available.

I can`t make sense of this, and I was wondering whether someone could simplify these results and tell me clearly what I can expect?

      Thanks

I would not worry about the estimated speeds at the Bt exchange the Bt speed test and router stats gives all the information

Re: What speed my line can support.....?

I folowed the the FAQ to Test Result and entered my telephone number. I was then asked this:
In order to confirm that the telephone number entered previously co-responds to correct account on the network, can you please enter your normal login name below,(e.g. joe.blogs@myisp.net) and then click GO

It asks for a login name... what do I put here?

Re: What speed my line can support.....?

the login name on the sticker bottom of router

this will be the MAC code located on the bottom of the sky router (8 digits) Followed

by @skydsl so your final username would be eg. 0018DFG6@Skydsl
Just in case you are having problems
To do the Bt speed test Test Result first part add home telephone number.
The second part user name you need to use is the Lan port MAC address of your router (without the colons) followed by @skydsl. you'll find it on the sticker on the bottom of the router if for some reason no sticker You can also use the link How to get your router statistics For connect Customer the Bt test is what Sky will ask you to do the reason is Sky need to know your IP Profile and Actual IP Throughput Achieved During Test

Re: What speed my line can support.....?

I am unable to get any other Sky Broadband package because I am out of their catchment area and have found out that Tiscali is the only LLU ISP Provider at my exchange which is 1.8miles away. I am seriously thinking of switching to them. Is their anything I can do to improve my Connect package speed currently?

And could you please tell me what speed my line is capable of supporting?

Re: What speed my line can support.....?

      I wouldn't touch Tiscali.

You would be better going with Plusnet, IdNet, Zen or ADSL 24, all seem to be doing the BT product MUCH better than Sky.

Your line seems to sync at around 2mb but without router stats it's not possible to tell if that's the most you will get.
