      Seriously Slow Sky Broadband

      Hi all,

I have been with Sky Broadband Connect for about 3 and half years now however I never have has good internet speeds. On MySky it says the following: When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was: 2.5Mb. However ever since I purchased Sky Broadband Connect I have never recieved these speeds.

After 10am my speed slows right down to a pathetic 0.1 - 0.7 Mbps and thats at 10am!! At peak times my connection is allmost non-existant it unbareable. I have my main computer downstairs connected to the Netgear DG834G/T Router using three cables... Power/Yellow Ethernet/Grey Telephone Line.

I also have another computer upstairs using a Wireless Network Adapter to recieve internet. That connection is worse than the main computer downstairs.

I need good connection for my high end mupltiplayer online game and am unable to play until this problem is fixed.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1600 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 14.8 db 6.0 db

      I need help please.......

For gaming, the Connect package is next to useless. Although your speed seems to be capped, this is not really the problem.

You need to swap ISP's if you want to continue gaming, check your exchange and see if you can get O2 or Be LLU.

You can't upgrade from Connect unfortunately. Try calling Sky tech support and see if there's anything they can do if not, change ISP - log on to bethere or O2 and check availability/speeds.

      Re: Seriously Slow Sky Broadband

OK so I can't upgrade from Connect, however currently I on a package where I get Sky Talk is 5 per month Sky Broadband Connect and Sky TV at a reduced cost. This package deal is coming to an end soon. Would I be able to change to

      Sky Broadband Unlimited + Sky Talk Freetime + Router = 10 ?

No, BT's system will handle it, try not to turn off the router too much incase it thinks it is a fault.

The only real soloution is to move ISP, nothing else will do it.

Check your exchange for O2 or Be LLU equipment, you will see a huge improvement with either of these. If they do not have their own LLU in there then try:- Plusnet, Zen, IdNet or ADSL24, all use the same BT equipment that Sky use for Connect but they manage their networks much better.

Plusnet even do a superb gamers package for low pings etc.

OK so the only way to fix this problem is to switch ISP. How would I check the exchange point for O2 or any other ISP?

No you are on Sky Connect because Sky don't have their LLU equipment in the exchange which is a shame as it is much much better.

Go here and put in your details to check your exchange, post a link if you want us to advise etc.
