      Extremely slow internet

      Hi,
      First post here.

I recently purchased Sky Max and had it for about 2 weeks now.
It started out slow (0.8meg) and gone worse (0.3meg)

I took all the measures to make sure its not the hardware or any firewall issues.
I'm currently plugged into the BT test socket and here the figures:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 383 kbps 550 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.5 db 34.7 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 10.0 db

My exchange is about 4 miles away.

Is there anything that can be done to improve it?

      Re: Extremely slow internet

Do you have a test socket? (see sig for details).

If so, post your stats again connected to it. You seem to have a lot of noise on your line.

      Re: Extremely slow internet

Can you hear any noise on the line?

Just pick up the receiver and press one number, you should only hear a faint hum, if you hear anything else you need to report it to the company you pay your line rental too, if it's BT, do not mention ADSL problems.

      Re: Extremely slow internet

Do you have phone extensions? If so are all of these dead when the faceplate is removed? You have noise problems which is holding your speed back as you are syncing as fast as the line will allow.

Try a quiet line test by plugging a corded phone into the test socket dialling 17070 option 2 and listen. Your line should be fairly quiet with no snaps crackles or pops.

You are probably on ADSL2+ at the moment and it is possible this does not suit your line. If you rule out the above points, phone Sky and ask them to move your line to G.DMT to see if it suits your line better.

      Re: Extremely slow internet

      Hi,
Thanks a lot for your help!!

I dont know what you mean with phone extensions. There are phone sockets all over the house if thats what you mean. I dont ever use them for anything tho. The router is plugged stright into the microfilter with a short adsl lead and then straight into the test socket at the moment.

Ive done that 17070 test. There are no cracks or pops but its not 100% quiet. I can hear some background noise. Sounds like a hum but just a bit higher pitched. Its a constant noise tho and not very loud.

I'll give sky a call then and tell them about that G.DMT.

      Thanks a lot!!

      Re: Extremely slow internet

I just goff the phone with sky.
I've been transferred to CST which have done all sorts of tests. The result was that due to distance to my phone exchange and due to the quality of the actual physical phone line I can only ever get 1.5meg max.

They've increased it for me and the first test resultet in 0.93meg.
Its bad news but I gues not really anyones fault. The good news is that they let me downgrade to the sky free internet package which is 2meg.

I'm gonna give virgin a call now and see if I can pay them to install cable here. Its worth a shot even tho I already know that its not gonna happen.

Thanks for all your help anyway!

Let's have a look at your stats when they downgrade you?

Do you really have the DG834GT as your profile says? If so, click HERE put in admin and sky and this will show your detailed stats. Post them here. If you do not have that router it will not work.

If the link does not work for you try this http://pathogenrush.blogspot.com/200...-1skuk_20.html click the Detailed stats button.
