      Dave's Speed..

      Hi all,

Almost at the point where I move from Sky - I moved onto MAX last week and also fitted a filtered faceplate to our Mastersocket, yet I'm sure this can be improved. Just wondered how these stats looked?

I am debating ringing sky to see if they can Fastpath us and also see if they can change the Delay settings..

      Thanks for any help..

      Dave

Your line is fairly heavily capped or in the process of being DLM trained. If you have just moved your package there is a good chance DLM is running on your line. What speed did you have with Mid as there is no chance that moving to Max would increase it? If a speed increase was your idea, you have wasted your money. The most you will see is around 5-6Mbs.

Have a look at the Broadband details section on your MySky page, this will tell you if your line is in training. If it is not, phone Sky and ask them to manually configure your line for a better speed

as for Fastpath - Sky have never used it on LLU so don't bother calling and asking for that...

remove filter faceplate and try from test socket as your downstream snr better than upstream indicating some issue

      Re: Dave's Speed..

You need to let DLM finish, it will set the line to it's fastest stable setting. Once it has, post the stats again and we can check it hasn't gone wrong.

You cannot get fastpath on LLU, you need to ask for your max delays to be reduced to 8, this is a similar thing and should reduce your ping times by upto 50% but be warned it may also slow the download speed as it will make the line less stable.

As for the upgrade, Max will gain you no extra speed because your kine is not capable of over 8mb which was Mids limit but you do gain unlimited downloads which is a very good reason to upgrade if you download a lot.

      Re: Dave's Speed..

      Hi Guys,

Just want to give a little update - e-mail sky support last night and they have looked at the line. They have had fun as we now are running at 5.6 - just a tad better.

Unlimited download would be good, so I'll stick with it for now. Price difference is not a great deal per month. Thanks for the hints & tips. Just a question on our exchange - is there an upgrade programme? I checked the exchange information last night and there was a date of March 2010 for exchange upgrade.. though it did not discuss what.

      Re: Dave's Speed..

Chances are that any upgrade is only for the BT equipment which will only be on par with what you are already using on Sky.

BT are playing catch up with the LLU providers.
