Normal training speed?
Hi all,
As I'm a new customer to Sky BB and having been activated yesterday, I've been reading on the forums to see how my line fares to everyone elses.
Since Im no techie, I have come to understand a bit about all this. My stats are:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 16.5 db
Noise Margin 28.7 db 13.0 db
My speed as above has been constant since the line was activated with no variation. Im not using wireless, and am using the main socket. Test socket gives exactly the same result.
I do realize theres a 10 day testing period, but from reading on the forums, I guess I was expecting the speed to be more varied, it appears quite stable as it is.
Am I correct in saying that having my noise margin decreased, would increase my downstream? Sky quoted a 6mb max speed when I signed up.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Normal training speed?
With that attenuation I would have expected a lot higher download speed.
Maybe its on DLM as being a new customer you would be subject to it.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Normal training speed?
Ironically just after posting, I lost connection and got the following results once reconnected:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7611 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.0 db 15.6 db
Noise Margin 24.5 db 12.0 db
Download Speed: 6584 kbps (823 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 558 kbps (69.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Will monitor the results over the next few days.

Re: Normal training speed?
DLM now starts Max lines on 4mb and moves them up until their highest attainable speed is reached, it takes about 10 days to complete so just hang in there.

Yep it starts low and heads high now.

"Sky quoted a 6mb max speed when I signed up."
As I have a similar attenuation to you i'd say you'd get around 14 megabit or more but I noticed your attenuation increased between the first stats and the second? I'm no expert like these guys but I find that strange ? My knowledge in this area is very limited lol

Re: Normal training speed?
The line is still in it's DLM training period, it will continue to increase until the noise margin hits around the default figure of 6.9db so I would imagine he will end up with 14-16mb.

Re: Normal training speed?
Thanks for the replies all, I will continue to monitor and ask for help if I run into any hiccups.
Just curious though, why would Sky quote a 6mb max line, if stats wise, Im capable of more than double that?

Re: Normal training speed?
Sky use quite an old database for their estimates, I don't know why they don't upgrade it as many ISP's have.
Our estimates will be closer to theirs
