      @ Steve

The BT tester won't work for those on LLU products afaik unless its a different one to the one I am thinking of.

      ^^^^^^^
Steve is on Connect so he probably does not realise this. Nice to see him posting outside his 'blog' though.

Well ok, I maybe talked to it a little bit. I was actually making a cup of tea at the time, and walked past the router in the hall with the green/orange light flashing. "They're doing it! they're doing it!" So I plugged the laptop straight into the router, ...alright it was already plugged in..

Right, DLM. Well this could be interesting. I've been reading about it on and off. We'll just have to see what happens. The line in general though had been stable with BT, and would never re-sync due to drop outs.

That Noise Margin number on the downstream keeps on fluctuating between 12 db and 10 db. I'll just go look... Yep 12/10.

We'll just have to wait and see.

But for clarification and reference, Sky's LLU Exchange is 16 Mbit enabled. BT's max is 8 Mbit.

OOOOHHH!! It's just been down to 9 db NM on the downstream. Back up to 10/12. 10/12 is where it seems to hover.

Re: How Long Does It Take For Your Connection To Sync/Connect

I wouldn't worry about the NM reported by the Netgear V2 (DG934G) Mine can go down to 0db and still hold its connection. (currently its at 3db)

It seems to be unimportant or broken.

As long as your connection is stable, that's all that matters.

Now it's down to 8!! And the NM of the upstream is 5.

      Oh all these numbers...

Back to DS NM 10, and US NM 8 now.

      Code:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16379 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 17 db 8 db
Noise Margin 8 db 5 db

Yep, probably my fault for making Razz worry about this too much. A high nm is usually the sign of a cap or faulty wiring ( which isnt the case here ), too low a nm with the V1 routers could result in disconnections.
      Stop worrying and enjoy

But I can't. All these numbers. They keep on changing.

Now here's a question I haven't found the answer to yet. The TxPkts and RxPkts fields on the Netgear routers. How big are the packets in bytes?? That is seriously one that I haven't found the answer to yet, and I've had a v3 for about 2-years. You try typing it into Google ;-)

Tbh, I have no idea, 4 seems to ring a bell for some reason but I guesss it could just as easily be a multiple ie 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 etc.
But like i said I dont know, hopefully someone will enlighten us soon

Re: How Long Does It Take For Your Connection To Sync/Connect

I think the Packet size depends on the MTU which in Sky's case is 1500 bytes. So a rough estimates of the send/receive totals would be TxPkts/RxPkts X 1500. I say rough, as every packet sent will not be the maximum size, some will be smaller. For the average user, it is a pretty meaningless measurement, a more accurate assessment of usage can be obtained by using Sky User - New Beta Project - SkyUser Bandwidth Meter .

As has been said a few times, forget about figures, you are in the fortunate position of having one of the best connections available, relax and enjoy it.
