Maybe the BT router negotiates a different nm, theres no errors and you have synced at the max so I dont think theres anything to worry about. Lets see what stats you get when you plug your sky router in.

      Mmmmm. Noise Margin.... 16db downstream.

Hang on... I'll just log into next door's router and see what theirs is.... Back.

bulldog.png is their connection. My connection is bt.png.

      Code:
                                 Mine Theirs
DS Line Attentuation : 16.0 db 16.0 db
DS Noise Margin : 16.0 db 13.8 db

US Line Attentuation : 4.0 db 8.5 db
US Noise Margin : 21.0 db 22.0 db

      ISP : BT Bulldog
      Distance from LLU : 0.5 Km 0.5Km
Theirs does go all around the house on a bit of cheap cable running up the stairs.

      What's the verdict then?

What it used to do, was no matter what you were doing, your page would get redirected to their Webwise (Phorm) page in place of yours, and with YOUR url too. I regularly clear out cookies and alike here (running Linux, testing O/S etc.) and it was getting irritating.

It's all very well them doing that if they know what the machine is which is connecting, but when they don't know and it can't deploy it's cookie then it stops you using the net. Like, browsing with text based Lynx or NetTamer (DOS based browser). I use Lynx for example when going on warez and dodgy sites like ROM repositories.

Not quite sure if you are looking for an approx speed here?

I am not the best at stats but with an attenuation of 16 - you should be looking at full speed on Max.

      ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This ADSL2 Line Speed Calculator is a best guess only, as to the broadband speed that maybe possible on your telephone line. The checker provides results of up to 24mb with the data that is made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Line Speed that you would receive on any ADSL or LLU product from another ISP.

Hi as dholdi say`s you will be on DLM for the first 8 days but I would give it at least 10 days. Noise margin 6.9dbs is meant to be the ideal average, anyway you have a good day Tomorrow and enjoy
As you will be on DLM as a new customer

Re: How Long Does It Take For Your Connection To Sync/Connect

      Heyoo :-)

Well the Sky DG934G router is all plugged in and ready to go. Not syncing at the moment as it's failing authentication on the BT line.

All of the ethernet cables are now plugged into the bridged WRT54G and I'm on next door's network in the meantime as planned.

I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow with some stats when the Sky router comes up. Fingers crossed.

      Thanks again.

Re: How Long Does It Take For Your Connection To Sync/Connect

      We are now live.

Can't see Maidenhead though. I did when it first sync'd, and the ping was about 30ms. It's been up about 30-minutes now.

Ooooh, this is soooo responsive. It's quite subtle really.

Right, ...so I musn't touch the router for 10-days right? It's plugged straight into the Test Socket on the Master Socket, and can stay like that indefinitely.

I did notice when it first went live that it was going up and down a few times, and that the test light was coming on. So I can only assume that was the engineer. I literally saw it go live within about a minute. Ok, I admit, I've been walking past the thing and staring at it...

DS Sync Speed : 16379 kbps
DS Line Attenuation : 17 db
DS Noise Margin : 12 db

US Sync Speed : 764 kbps
US Line Attenuation : 8 db
US Noise Margin : 8 db

Hi I see you have just about doubled your speed great. Sky ask for the BT speed tester for speeds. But Sky User speed tester is good.
some information about BT speed tester
BT Performance Test - Go to BT Performance Tester enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the LAN MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the router by using one of the utilities available on the forum.

. you mean you never talked to it as you passed. I know I did As Dave said he will have a look at your speeds great result now just enjoy

Your connection could hardly be better. You may find you get messed about a bit with DLM, which has not started on your line yet, so keep a record of your stats so you can produce them to Sky should the occasion arise.

Yep, great stats, the nm is slightly higher than expected but i guess that could be down to the very low attenuation and if Sky ever went over 16meg you could achieve even more. I would leave things exactly as they are, theres a lot of people who would die for those stats
