Don't really know much about this stuff, our house only has one phone line (downstairs), this has a filter in it. we don't use a house phone, the wireless router is plugged in here (netgear DG834GT) and also sky TV, any ideas?
If it helps postcode is LS10 4TX so you can see how far we are from the Exchange. Any help would be appreciated

Re: very slow speeds, any ideas?
How long have you been on Sky BB, if it's less than three-four weeks your line may still be in the initial DLM phase, if not then you have been quite heavily capped.
You need to ring up Sky and run through the slow speed troubleshooting to get through to CST who will be able to make the adjustments to your line.
Just to check, you are sure the socket id filtered, a twin splitter fot the Sky receiver can look like a filter but is not.
It should be, Socket-Filter, ADSL to router
Phone to Splitter and then to Sky receiver.
What are your stats like with ony the router plugged in?

Re: very slow speeds, any ideas?
Hi thanks for the quick reply, I have removed all but the filter and router, results are as follows:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 832 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 14.7 db 14.0 db
I have been with sky for well over a year and these are the speeds I almost always get, what do you meen by 'capped'? is this a deliberate thing?

Re: very slow speeds, any ideas?
You have quite a long line from the exchange as your attenuation is high, If DLM has ran and found some noise on the line it will reduuce the speed until there a fewer errors. It seems that for some reason that your speed has reduced yet your line has either improved or DLM had made an error in judgement.
If you ring Sky, you could tell them that you have repaired your wiring and ask if they could remove the cap. Ske set a default noise margin of 6.9db so you should get double your speed now and maybe a little more.
You will know when the cap has either been raised or removed as you noise margin will reduce until it is nearer the 6.9db level.

To be honest, you should call the standard number and go throuth the auto responce, if there is a big queue then I would hang up and ring after 10:30pm tonight, you have more chance of speaking directly to CST then.
