Very variable connection speeds
Hi
New to the forum, but it's provided some very useful info already so well done guys!
Been looking at people talking about their router stats. Afraid I don't know much about what these mean but I do know that using the speed checker on this site I have been getting very variable results. My router stats are as follows:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 49 db 29 db
Noise Margin 10 db 13 db
The speed checker seems to show download speeds of up to about 2500ish kbps at best times and at other times down below 1000kbps. This is very noticeable just with ordinary web surfing, never mind downloading files.
What gives...?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Speed testers can be vary temperamental and inconsistent. Looking at your stats you are connecting at 3072. Your noise margin though is slightly high. Can you explain your set up to the telephone line, ie are you wireless or connected wired to the master socket . Are you using extensions? The below links may explain in detail your queries.

Is it the same results whilst using a cable? Wireless would always tend to show lower speeds etc

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried to log into the forum last night to respond but I couldn't even load the web pages - the connection was that slow.
Anyway, it came to a head this afternoon so I called Sky tech support. They were very helpful. Not sure precisly what they did but my connection speed is back up to a decent level for now at least. Will keep an eye on it to make sure it does't start slowing down again. Well done Sky tech support!!
